Antony Price, the visionary style architect responsible for many legendary styles associated with David Bowie, Roxy Music, and Queen Camilla, has passed away aged 80.

Price was best known for his defined forms and performative fashion, including the soft-colored suits that appeared in rock band Duran Duran's seminal music video for "their hit Rio".

"Remembering him as a 'visionary' and a 'kind, intelligent and razor-witted friend,' Duran Duran shared a message online."

Price's death comes less than a month after he unveiled his most recent collection in London, marking his return to the runway after over three decades. Artist Lily Allen modelled a dress evoking the famous black velvet "dress" made famous by Diana, Princess of Wales.

A Lasting Legacy

Born in Yorkshire in 1945, Price headed for London in the early 1960s to enroll at the esteemed Royal College of Art.

A year after graduating, he began designing menswear at Stirling Copper and was the creator of the tight, button-detailed trousers that The Rolling Stones' frontman Mick Jagger famously wore during the iconic group's Gimme Shelter tour in the late sixties.

He established his eponymous line in 1979 and staged his first fashion show a year later. The show was launched by creations worn by the famed model Jerry Hall, who was also seen in the marriage dress Price designed for her for her marriage to Sir Mick Jagger.

Collaborations with Icons

A long-time collaborator of the late David Bowie, Price created the iconic jacket the star wore for his "As The World Falls Down" music video in 1986.

His trademark skill to blend elements of men's and women's fashion along with his technical proficiency in crafting form-fitting garments made him a "one-of-a-kind talent," in the words of the British Fashion Council.

During the nineties, he began working on ensembles for Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, such as a number of outfits for her American tour after becoming Duchess.

With a vocation that covered half a century, Price held his ultimate fashion presentation in London just last month in conjunction with the fashion brand 16Arlington.

  • Defined Shapes: A hallmark of his work.
  • Theatrical Flair: Influencing music videos and stagewear.
  • Genre-Blending Design: Merging menswear with womenswear.
  • A Client List from Rock to Royalty: Spanning iconic musicians and members of the royal family.

The industry says farewell to a genuine innovator whose impact on the visual landscape of music remains deeply ingrained.
