Dallas Cowboys defensive lineman Marshawn Kneeland has passed away at the age of 24.
Kneeland was drafted by the Cowboys in the second round in the 2024 NFL Draft and appeared in 18 games for the team, including four starts.
He recorded his initial touchdown in Tuesday's defeat to the Arizona Cardinals when he recovered a blocked punt.
"He was a cherished team member and member of our organisation," the Dallas Cowboys said.
"We send our condolences regarding Marshawn are with his girlfriend Catalina and his loved ones."
Kneeland was picked by the Cowboys with the 56th selection of the 2024 NFL Draft after his college career for Western Michigan.
His agent, Jonathan Perzley, said his "heart breaks" for the loss of the athlete who "poured his heart" into every moment.
"I watched him fight his way from a aspiring young man at Western Michigan with a dream to being a respected professional for the Dallas Cowboys," Perzley commented.
The NFL said it is "profoundly grieved" by the news.
His untimely death has left a void in the NFL community, remembered as a dedicated athlete with a bright career ahead.
