Democratic lawmakers Claim White House Refusing Government Closure Negotiations as Chief Executive Echoes Warning of Layoffs

A top White House official has stated that large-scale dismissals of government workers could commence if the chief executive concludes that negotiations to end the government shutdown are "completely going nowhere|making no progress|stalled completely}."

Kevin Hassett told the news network that he still saw a possibility that Democratic lawmakers would concede, but noted that the president was "gearing up to act|take action|intervene" if necessary.

Stalled Discussions

No substantial evidence of discussions have emerged between congressional officials since Trump met with them last week. The stoppage started on the first of October, after upper chamber Democrats voted against a short-term appropriations bill that would maintain government departments functioning through to the twenty-first of November.

"They've chosen not to negotiate with us," Senate Democratic leader Chuck Schumer told CBS, claiming the stalemate could be ended only by more talks between Trump and the principal legislative officials.

The GOP House speaker alleged Democratic lawmakers of being "lacking seriousness" in discussions to resolve the federal government stoppage, while the Democratic leader blamed GOP lawmakers of driving the shutdown.
