Iran Reports Attack on US Base in Bahrain, During Regional Retaliatory Strikes.

Iran's military claims to have hit a US naval base in Bahrain, as Iran launched strikes across the region in retaliation for a "massive" and ongoing offensive targeting the nation by the US and Israel.

Large columns of dark smoke were observed billowing from an area near the main base of the American Fifth Fleet in Manama, Bahrain. The extent of any destruction is uncertain and the United States has not commented.

Missile Defenses Activated

In other parts of the Middle East, the UAE, the State of Qatar and Kuwait - all home to US military bases - said they have shot down incoming projectiles in their territorial skies.

In Doha, Qatar's defence ministry stated it had intercepted a number of projectiles seemingly aimed at the Al Udeid Air Base, the largest American base in the Middle East.

Iran's Declared Retaliation

Iran's Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) declared it was attacking American facilities and interests as part of military campaign "Truthful Promise 4", in response for the strikes on the Islamic Republic launched by the United States and its ally Israel on Saturday.

That preceding assault - executed at approximately 09:15 Iran time - has so far focused on sites linked to the Iranian leadership, with President Trump encouraging the people of Iran to rise up against the regime.

Regional Fallout

In the State of Israel, air raid sirens sounded nationwide after the Israel Defense Forces stated it had identified an barrage of missiles from Iran.

The defence ministry of the United Arab Emirates announced that the country has been subjected to a "a blatant attack involving Iranian ballistic missiles".

"Emirati air defenses responded to the projectiles with great effectiveness and shot down a series of missiles," it added.

Officials reported wreckage landed in a residential area in the capital, causing some material damage and killing a civilian.

The United States Air Force operates from Al Dhafra Air Base, to the south of Abu Dhabi, along with the Emirati Air Force.
