President Trump Welcomes Relatives of Attacked Guard Members to the Presidential Residence

President Donald Trump revealed on the weekend that he has extended an invitation the family of a Guard member killed last week to attend the White House.

He added that he contacted her parents and they were “deeply grieving”.

Background on the Devastating Incident

Soldier Sarah Beckstrom, twenty years old, was killed in a attack on Wednesday in the nation's capital.

Her colleague, Andrew Wolfe, twenty-four years old, is still in the hospital in critical condition.

Memorials across West Virginia have taken place in their memory.

Presidential Offer

The commander-in-chief explained he’s discussed a meeting at the presidential residence for the families of both individuals of the state Guard.

“I said: ‘When you’re able, because that’s a difficult moment, come to the White House. We’re going to pay tribute to her,” the president told reporters. “And similarly with Andrew, no matter the outcome.”

Community Support

Attendees assembled over the past few days at the high school in the state to remember Beckstrom.

Both the soldiers had been fulfilling duties with the military unit as part of Trump’s national effort to assist law enforcement in DC.

Paying Tribute to Sarah Beckstrom

“She was the kind of student that instructors hoped for. She carried herself with calm resilience, a warm expression and a upbeat demeanor that encouraged people around her,” Jarrod Hankins, the leader of her alma mater, told the press. “She was sweet, considerate and always ready to assist people.”

Funeral details for Beckstrom are yet to be finalized.

Legal Steps and Policy Changes

Law enforcement have charged a 29-year-old suspect with a charge of first-degree murder and two counts of assault with intent to kill while armed.

The incident led the Trump administration to pause asylum processing and temporarily stop issuing entry permits to holders of passports from Afghanistan.

Status of the Airman

Andrew Wolfe, a resident of Martinsburg, started his military career in February 2019 and is a 2019 graduate of Musselman high school, according to the Associated Press.

He is still undergoing care and is “in a critical fight”, West Virginia leader the governor stated on a news program.

The state’s top lawyer the attorney general informed the program that she planned to speak to his relatives.

Memory of the Fallen Soldier

Beckstrom, from Summersville, graduated from Webster County High in June 2023 and enlisted soon after, working as a law enforcement officer with excellence, according to the military.

“She had a lot of compassion and she absolutely had fortitude,” Morrisey addressed the audience at the vigil. “Though her time ended too soon, she has made an impact that’s going to be remembered always.”
