Enthusiasts looking forward to the release of Dragon Quest 7 Reimagined can get a head start much longer. An free-to-play demo version is set to release on January 7th, offering a generous glimpse into the game's opening hours. Critically, all progress made within this demo can be transferred directly into the main game upon its subsequent debut.
This project is a from-scratch re-envisioning of the seminal 2000 role-playing game, originally titled Dragon Quest VII: Fragments of the Forgotten Past. In a notable departure from other series re-releases, such as the recently launched HD-2D versions, this version adopts a unique three-dimensional visual presentation. Environments have been crafted to evoke intricate dioramas, with party members having a delightful chibi-esque look.

The development team have implemented numerous changes to streamline the original experience. These include:
Such changes seek to address a key the 2000 game's frequent criticisms: its immense length. The original main quest could easily require more than 100 hours to finish. This reimagined edition has been expressly structured to improve pacing and reduce any filler.
Curious adventurers can start exploring the reimagined world of DQ7 firsthand when the complimentary trial becomes available on Wednesday, January 7th. The full adventure, Dragon Quest 7 Reimagined, will then be scheduled to arrive on 5th February 2026. It will be available on a wide array of systems, such as Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2, PS5, Windows PC, and Xbox Series X.
