The co-creator of Call of Duty, who helped create the immensely successful franchise Call of Duty, has passed away in a traffic collision in the state of California aged 55.

Zampella's death was verified by Electronic Arts, the publisher that controls Respawn Entertainment, a game studio that he helped create.

The influential game designer lost his life when his car crashed and was engulfed in flames on a freeway in Los Angeles on this past Sunday, US media outlets report.

"This is an unimaginable loss, and we stand with Vince's loved ones, those closest to him, and all those touched by his work," an official with Electronic Arts stated.
