Dramatic Winning Goal Secures Triumph Over Liverpool
This marked the moment the young Brazilian truly arrived in English football.
More than a year and four months after a deal was agreed to secure the teenager to Chelsea from Palmeiras, Estevao threw Chelsea fans into ecstasy by netting a 95th-minute winner to securing a 2-1 win over title holders Liverpool.
This decisive strike sparked immense passion that Chelsea coach the team's head coach was sent off for running 50 yards to celebrate with his players.
"For an 18-year-old, he possesses exceptional ability and could develop into an elite footballer," remarked ex-international striker Wayne Rooney.
"I think he's the kind of winger who the Chelsea fans will be very excited to watch perform each week."
Despite losing additional center-backs to injury and being without key forward Cole Palmer, Chelsea found a way to win - with Estevao providing the decisive moment.
The goal itself was relatively straightforward, with the Brazilian arriving at the back post to convert his teammate's driven delivery.
However it came following Estevao - who was brought off the bench in the 75th minute - had already tested Liverpool goalkeeper the Georgian international, executed multiple runs, and generated opportunities for team-mates, featuring a delivery that was headed against the post by Enzo Fernandez in the 91st minute.
Signs of the youngster's ability were apparent in earlier games, with his array of nutmegs, clever touches and other eye-catching moments drawing gasps from the crowd.
Yet, a first goal in official competition had eluded him - before this moment.
Back in his homeland, Estevao had previously established himself as a star player for one of the country's biggest clubs, and secured seven caps for Brazil which is now led by renowned ex-Blues coach the Italian tactician.
It has, expectedly, required more time for him to adapt in the UK having moved after the conclusion of the recent international club competition.
"We understand that any young talent can struggle when they transfer from another country to settle down here and to perform for Chelsea," explained assistant manager Willy Caballero.
Ex-Blues winger Pat Nevin believes the Brazilian is "going to be special".
"Every time any Chelsea player gets the ball, they attempt to locate Estevao," noted Nevin. "This indicates a story about a player."
"He's an 18-year-old but everyone seeks to provide him possession. This demonstrates his potential and what he's doing in practice sessions. He's going to be special."
Club executives at Chelsea have been showing enthusiasm about Estevao's arrival ever since they finalized his transfer more than a year prior to his eventual move to the Premier League.
Fittingly, the youngster scored a spectacular strike from an acute position against Chelsea in a losing cause on his last game for Palmeiras during the off-season.
His departure from the Sao Paulo-based club came with over twenty-five strikes and 15 assists in eighty-three appearances.
The Brazilian became the first player under 18 to have twenty attacking contributions in one campaign in the Brazilian top flight, shattering a milestone previously held by Neymar.
During the international tournament, he received 'superior player of the match' on two occasions and, perhaps fittingly, excelled against Lionel Messi's Inter Miami, having acquired the moniker 'Little Messi' in his homeland.
It felt like a coup from the Blues to outbid multiple elite European teams, featuring Paris St-Germain, the Spanish giants, the Catalan club and Bayern Munich, to the Brazilian's services.
His selection of the London club was due to his belief in their vision and the assurance of a significant role in his debut campaign, with his sights set on representing for the national team at the 2026 World Cup.
Estevao consulted ex-Blues center-back Thiago Silva prior to selecting Chelsea in 2024.
Chelsea had planned to introduce him gradually, but Palmer's injury and the Brazilian's exceptional form have resulted in him appearing in every match - except the tie with Brentford which he was absent for because of illness.
Palmer aims to return from a recurring groin problem following the national team pause.
However despite the star attacker's absence, the Brazilian teenager appears ready to produce more big moments for Chelsea.
