Week 5 NFL Shocker: Eagles Fall to Broncos while Bills Succumb to Patriots

The last two unbeaten teams in the NFL saw their perfect records shattered during week five as the Philadelphia Eagles along with Buffalo Bills suffered shocking losses on their own turf.

Denver's football team transformed from dark horses to front-page news following an impressive comeback victory against the reigning Super Bowl champions the Eagles, before hopping on a flight for this Sunday's London matchup.

New England's squad then visited Buffalo and ended Buffalo's undefeated start with an impressive victory of their own in their first primetime appearance in a full year.

The Baltimore Ravens suffered a third consecutive loss - their defensive woes could be terminal for their postseason hopes - while the Dallas Cowboys, Indianapolis Colts, and Detroit enjoyed decisive victories on another action-packed Sunday.

Not only was it beating the reigning title holders, but the way of their comeback from 14 points down that made the Broncos' 21-17 victory in Philadelphia such a defining achievement.

The Eagles had secured 10 games in a row, 12 straight at home and 20 of their last 21 total before Broncos quarterback Bo Nix engineered two touchdowns in five fourth-quarter minutes and a last-minute field goal.

The Eagles are now 4-1 but there is a big worry about their offensive unit, which sits among one of the worst in the league. Receiver DaVonta Smith stated they are not "on the same page" with quarterback Jalen Hurts.

The Broncos' defensive unit, which sacked Hurts on six occasions, had a lot to do with it, and, together with an established starting QB in Nix and elite coach in Sean Payton, they possess all the components to mount a legitimate playoff push.

Patriots on National TV Upset Bills

If Denver's win was somewhat anticipated, few predicted New England marching into Buffalo and defeating Josh Allen's Bills, but they did so with huge character.

A first primetime game for the rookie quarterback produced a breakout performance as he directed a decisive field goal drive in the dying seconds to win 23-20.

Maye was resilient and executed the right throws at the right times, many to former Bills receiver Stefon Diggs, who delivered an outstanding performance for Mike Vrabel's side.

Vrabel was anticipated to turn things around in New England, but such a significant victory arrived earlier than many predicted.

The Patriots defence contained the Buffalo Bills attack during their surprising road victory.

Ravens Play-off Hopes Over?

This campaign is becoming a disaster for the Ravens, who were without a host of defensive stars as they were hammered 44-10 by the Houston Texans.

It equaled their largest home defeat, and dropping to 1-4 for the season means among the pre-season Super Bowl favourites have just a small opportunity of making the play-offs.

Baltimore are currently 4-11 when missing star QB Lamar Jackson, who was hurt, but it is an exceptionally poor defensive unit that is the real problem - for a team that have been synonymous with stout defense over the years.

Houston strolled to victory as the Ravens became the first team in the Super Bowl era to concede a minimum of 37 points in four of their first five contests. Their season is effectively over.

Lions, Bucs and Colts Reach 4-1

Detroit's running back duo Jahmyr Gibbs and David Montgomery registered a touchdown in one contest for the 14th time - a shared NFL record - as the Lions defeated Cincinnati 37-24.

The win made it four wins consecutively for the highest-scoring team the Lions, but not one against opponents with a winning record.

A more surprising 4-1 team are the Indianapolis Colts. With their star running back scoring three touchdowns in their 40-6 rout of Las Vegas and signal-caller Daniel Jones appearing as a transformed player, they will be a difficult opponent for any team.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers entered the four-win group with a thrilling 38-35 win in Seattle in which both teams traded nine scores in 10 sparkling possessions before the Seahawks faltered initially with a final-minute interception.

Chase McLaughlin kicked the game-winner with the last kick of the contest for his second occasion this year. All four of Tampa Bay's wins have been clinched in the last minute.

Saints and Titans Receive Assistance for Initial Victories

The way New Orleans and Tennessee started this campaign, they needed help to secure their initial victories, and they got plenty due to several comical errors from New York and Arizona.

Following a strong opening from New York rookie Jaxson Dart, the Giants made five turnovers - one was crucially taken back for six points - while also allowing Rashid Shaheed to score on a long reception as the Saints prevailed 26-14.

The Cardinals were more disastrous as they blew a substantial advantage mainly thanks to two huge mistakes.

First, Emari Demercado inexplicably fumbled the ball moments before reaching the end zone for a long score.

More disastrous was to come when Arizona intercepted Cam Ward close to their end zone, then fumbled the ball into the end zone for Tyler Lockett to recover as Tennessee snapped a ten-contest losing streak with a 22-21 win.

This left New York's Jets as the sole victory-less squad left in the NFL after their bruising 37-22 loss by Dallas.

The quarterback became the initial athlete in NFL history to surpass 4K through the air and 1K on the ground in his first 20 professional contests as he returned from being hurt to guide the Washington Commanders to an impressive 27-10 victory at the Los Angeles Chargers.

The running back was the standout performer for Carolina with over 200 yards on the ground in their thrilling 27-24 win over the Miami Dolphins.
